We are writing to thank you for your excellent and professional work during the major renovation to our house – which included virtually rebuilding the downstairs, moving the internal staircase, extending the upstairs deck, building on a studio and replacing the roof.
We are thrilled with the transformation.
So many people we have spoken to described building a house as a nightmare, but with Hayward Construction the process went as smoothly as possible.
Weekly site meetings, which you kept minutes of, monthly statements on building progress and costs involved, and your creative approach to challenges along the way ensured we were kept informed of all developments and costs and any problems were dealt with immediately.
So many people warned us that, having started building in July, there was no way we would be able to move back in before the December builders’ holidays. They also said once the builders had left the site, we would never see them again.
But Hayward Construction kept all its promises. We moved back into our transformed, spacious home a few days before the middle of December.
Our snag list was only one page long – with no major problems – and your teams returned until every item had been ticked off.
You came highly recommended by our architect, Andrew King, and we have no hesitation in recommending you to future clients.

Having purchased a piece of land on Rheenendal Road, Knysna, we approached a number of builders in the Knysna area showing them our plans of what we would like to have built. After speaking with them, we found that Hayward Construction – in particular Terry Hayward – made several pertinent points which would enhance the building.
We then employed Hayward Construction to build our single storey property which commenced in March 2007. Since then , we have received regular email updates/photographs of the various stages of the build. We visited in June 2007 to make final decisions and Mr Hayward made himself available to us at all times.
He introduced us to various companies who could supply us with the internal fittings ie kitchen/bedroom cupboards; electrical kitchen appliances; bathroom equipment etc – all of whom we found to be very helpful and competitive. After making our choices, these companies then liased with Hayward Construction on fitting etc.
Mr. Hayward has given us advice on ground clearance; roadways; fencing; security and general building advice – all of which we have found invaluable.
As we live in the UK – 6000 miles away from Knysna – having someone we can trust is extremely important. Terry and Rene in the office have kept us informed and answered any questions we have asked.
We have no hesitation in recommending Hayward Construction to any individual/organisation as their work is first class.

In the early part of last year, I approached several builders who had been approved to build homes on Thesen Island with the view to building my holiday home.
As a hands-on person, I chose not to engage an architect for site supervision, and therefore needed a competent builder who I felt would be easy to work with. In short, there was no difficulty in singling out Terry Hayward. He came across as articulate, genuine, and was open to discussion on decisions that we made along the way. I felt that he had my interests at heart with getting the building finished within budget and on time.
As I live in Cape Town, I was expecting to spend half of my time in Knysna to supervise the building work, and add constant input. It actually worked out that I have been to Knysna on a site visit about once a month, with our meetings often lasting a couple of hours. Terry has been great at problem solving and sourcing of subcontractors.
If I ever undertake another building contract in Knysna, I should definitely approach Hayward Construction again.
